Document Summary
Title The Possible Link Between Dieting, Tryptophan And Bulimia Nervosa
Description The role nutrition can have in eating disorders
Creation Date 01 August 2000
Doc type Article
Document Abstract:
The eating disorder bulimia nervosa (BN) is characterised by recurrent episodes of binge eating accompanied by extreme weight control behaviour due to overvalued ideas concerning body image regarding weight and shape. Although the neurobiological basis is still unclear, there is evidence of abnormalities in serotonin neurotransmission, indicating a possible link between tryptophan, dieting and BN.
