Document Abstract:
Obesity, and its association with cardiovascular disease, poses the single greatest public health problem in the developed world. Prospective surveys have shown obesity promotes type 2 diabetes, the risk increasing by some 27% in those putting on at least 5 Kg of weight over any 10 year period. The benefits of a high carbohydrate/ high fibre/low glycaemic index diet and other interventions are described here.
